Protection Standards and Code Development Processes

International and North American lightning protection standards are updated regularly, reflecting continual changes in the state of the art, and advances in building techniques. From the rise of data centres and secure storage facilities, to the implementation of green building processes and off-grid technologies, the changing construction landscape has required lightning protection standards to evolve rapidly in order to maintain the effectiveness of installed systems.

DLP is a member of both the CAN/CSA-B72-M87 and NFPA 780 standard technical committees. We are also intimately familiar with the lightning protection standards issued by Underwriters Laboratories (UL), the Lightning Protection Institute (LPI), and the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC). Our knowledge of upcoming changes in the standards allows us to work with building owners and designers to “future-proof” their lightning protection systems.

Please contact us for more information on the standards development process, or to find out how you can get involved!
